THE POLYURETHANE

The global production of polyurethane is increasingly increasing, due to the vastness of the fields of application that this material finds.

Polyurethanes are among the most versatile polymers because they can be used in many applications and in different forms, such as elastomers, adhesives, paints and especially foams (flexible, semi-rigid or rigid). Due to the variety of applications, the production of polyurethane has increased in recent decades, leading to an increase in waste, as well as an increase in concern about its disposal.

Green Polyols

The annual production of polyurethane in Europe in the bedding sector alone is over 1 Mt.

In Italy the bedding production is more than 100,000 tons and around 20,000 tons are disposed of.

However, polyurethane is particularly difficult to recover and nowadays the fate of end-of-life products and processing waste is inevitably landfill or incineration. Both solutions involve the development of a significant amount of CO2; not to mention the additional emissions produced during the production of the new raw material.

Green Polyols has developed a chemical recovery process to reduce the environmental impact and give new life to polyurethane. Our technology allows us to obtain new polyol raw material starting from polyurethanes otherwise destined for landfill or incineration.

The new raw material obtained from chemical recycling can be easily reintroduced into the production cycle, with a circular economy perspective.

In this way Green Polyols is not only able to transform a material with no longer any value into a resource, but also creates a quality product that competes with that of fossil origin.

The recovery of polyurethane also translates into a significant reduction in CO2 emissions deriving from the fossil raw material saved and from the lack of disposal processes (landfill or incineration). Furthermore, the polyol recovered from the recycling of polyureane acquires a certain economic value since it replaces the fossil raw material and eliminates disposal costs.

The polyol obtained through Green Polyols technology has characteristics that meet the quality parameters required for the virgin raw material and can be reintroduced into the polyurethane production cycle in percentages even higher than 30%.
